WEB024-2018

Release Date:  Sep 21, 2018

Expiry Date: Sep 20, 2020

Topic: Human Trafficking: How is This Relevant to My Practice

Presenter: Naomi Ishioka, RN, MSN, CEN

Member: $20

Non-Member: $35

Topic Overview: Human trafficking and slavery are NOT a thing of the past. In the past 10 years, human trafficking and slavery have emerged as an insidious and dark part of today's society. Modern-day slavery includes forced labor in homes, nail salons, farms, businesses, and perhaps most prevalently in the sex for hire industry. As nurses and engaged members of society, it is important to understand the implications of this problem, recognize the signs of a person who is being held against their will, and know how to respond. In this session, we will explore this topic.

Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to describe the problem of human trafficking in the United States.
  2. Participants will be able to list three identifying signs of a person who is being trafficked.
  3. Participants will be able to discuss the role and responsibilities of the nurse in recognition of the victim of trafficking.

Participants will be able to list reporting and referral resources for victims of human trafficking.
