Association of Safe Patient Handling Professionals (ASPHP)

The Association of Safe Patient Handling Professionals (ASPHP) is a member-driven, non-profit organization that was formed in 2011 to provide a venue for persons interested in the science of safe patient handling to share experiences, access education and information and advance their professional status through a Certification Program based on educational and experiential standards and testing.   Together with our growing membership, the ASPHP aspires to build a recognized and credentialed profession dedicated to the safety and comfort of caregivers and those they care for.  To this end, our Mission is:    “To improve the safety of caregivers and their patients by advancing the science and practice of safe patient handling.”

A small group of leaders in the safe patient handling industry came together as the organization’s Board of Directors.  Through frequent conference call meetings and a motivating passion for furthering the safe patient handling practice and profession, this group has established a legal entity and is moving forward to realize their collective vision.

The ASPHP Board consists of practitioners and educators that are leaders in the safe patient handling industry.   They have emerged as premier professionals in the field and have provided knowledge and successful practices for all of us to apply in our workplace.

Membership in the ASPHP is open to all persons interested in the practice and profession of safe patient handling, regardless of level of education, profession or position.  Membership is affordable and offers educational and networking value.  Members are encouraged to participate in the growth and evolution of the association by volunteering to work on a Board committee.

Of significant value, is the Association’s Certification program.  The ASPHP is excited to be able to offer this opportunity so that those engaged in the science or practice of safe patient handling can be recognized for having valuable specialized skills, knowledge and experience.
